Rwanda
Rwanda, a tragic yet beautiful country. In 1994 an estimated 1 million Rwandans died during violent civil unrest.
The economic situation of many communities in Rwanda can be improved for the lives of people who survive on as little as US$0.50 per day.
For example, CoAid and its partner organizations hope to help these communities by supplying sewing machines and livestock to women who lack a steady income. Many of these women are HIV positive and care for orphaned children. It is important that these women are able to feed and clothe the children.
Our goal is to help equip those we serve so that they can sustain themselves.
We believe that in the long-term, hand-ups are more effective than hand-outs.
The People in Byonja...
The people in this village talked and decided to buy six sheep with the money our partner organization gave them. They also purchased 50 kg of corn and 20 kg of beans to plant. With the remaining money they bought some hoes and machetes.
Several months later they sent a report saying that the sheep gave birth to nine lambs. They have planted about 3 acres of corn.
These people are hard working and creative. They have made a big impact in their community with the means they have available.
These people are doing what they can, with what they have, where they are.
