Flood victims still suffering

The following is from the ReliefWeb site (www.reliefweb.int/rw/rwb.nsf/db900sid/JBRN-7XPK9J):

"I lost my 18 year old son last year and had hardly recovered from that trauma when this devastation overtook our family, adding to our agony. My elder daughter Nageswari had to leave her studies and work for daily wages in order to run our family, my second daughter Usharani is studying in 7th standard and my youngest daughter Shirisha is in 5th standard, narrated Padmavati, a mother of three daughters, of Sangala village in C.Belgal mandal of Kurnool district. Her husband doesn't do any work despite having 2 acres of land.

"How can we educate our children in midst of such a trauma and uncertain situation?" questions Padmavati. She said, "I wanted my daughters to study well and earn good respect in my community but due to our poverty Nageswari had to stop her studies and start working. I was working very hard for my daughters' education but this flood has not only washed away my belongings but my dreams too. I have stopped thinking now as tomorrow seems to be bleak to me" said Padmavati with tears rolling down her face.

We don't see anything of this on the news today, but relief and recovery continues for thousands of people just like Padmavati and her family.

CoAid is active in Andhra Pradesh, helping fishing families trying to recover lost income after their fishing nets were washed away.

As we start looking forward to Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year, let's not forget those people who have lost almost everything. If you'd like to help us, please consider making a donation.

Thank you and God bless,
