Haiti Assessment Trip #4
Submitted by steveneill on 30 January 2010 - 1:00amSlept in until 8.30am -- so tired! Ate freeze-dried egg/ham breakfast. Dialoged with Hatian Pastor J about ideas how CoAid could help. Shared idea of disaster preparedness bootcamp. Met with Pastor G later in the morning and shared same ideas and explored how CoAid could partner with their development ministry (SKDE).
Skipped lunch. Visited small area where about 200 people camped in rough conditions. Uneven ground, no water, limited shelter, not very good situation at all. Was told there are 42-44 families in this location. Getting GPS fix has been difficult in general.
Haiti Assessment Trip #3
Submitted by steveneill on 29 January 2010 - 1:00amGot same taxi as last night at 5.15am to take me to Quality Inn where I met the TNM team. Boarded bus and drove the 7 hours to UN base at Port-au-Prince airport. Arrived Port-au-Prince and called around various contacts to get a ride to YWAM medical center near Presidential Palace. Met by local Haitian pastor. Invited to join them and accepted their offer to help me. Delivered medical supplies to YWAM base – they were very glad to receive them, especially the tents and tarps.
Haiti Update #3
Submitted by steveneill on 28 January 2010 - 9:04amI'm writing this from a hotel in Miami. My hope is to fly to Port-au-Prince, Haiti sometime tomorrow on a medical charter flight. All commercial flight into the country have been stopped, so if I get this flight it will be a minor miracle!
I just learned on CNN that a 15-year-old girl was pulled out of the rubble alive -- 15 days after the devastating earthquake! This is wonderful news and should encourage us that despite the official search for survivors was called off several days ago, there is still hope in Haiti!
Haiti Assessment Trip #2
Submitted by steveneill on 28 January 2010 - 1:00amMet RescueNet team at Comfort Inn. Got update on intel and what to expect in Haiti. Frustrating experience doing the phone runaround with Vision Airlines, Miami Air and a few other charter flight connections. Decided to take the matter into my own hands and went to airport to book a flight to Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. Whilst boarding the flight I met a pastor (John C) from First Baptist Church, Rogers, AK who is part of a group with “Thirst No More”. John invited me to travel with their group into Haiti on their chartered bus.

Submitted by steveneill on 27 January 2010 - 1:00amDenver to Miami today. American Airlines allowed up to 250lbs checked luggage, gratis, no questions asked. 1 medical box (containing bottles of iodine) was opened and inspected. Arrived MIiami and found Vision Airlines desk hoping to catch medical charter into Port-au-Prince. Happened to meet Kim and Mari (both dressed in scrubs), YWAM nurses who arrived on military C-140 transport from Haiti. Was told Vision would try and get me on flight next day. Called Sue H debriefer for RescueNet. Took shuttle bus to Comfort Inn. Met Sue at hotel. Checked in, showered and made a few calls.
